Q: When can I prune my verigated dogwood? I live in Zone 4.
A: Jake, the best time to prune you dogwood and other deciduous trees is in mid to late winter when it is dormant. Pruning it now, in early September is risky since it is still warm enough to stimulate new growth which could be damaged as soon as it gets colder. You also run the risk of exposing the tree to potential pests or diseases that may still be active. When you do prune, try to prune no more than 1/3 of the tree since taking more off at one time could make for a stressful recovery.

We have just discovered some beautiful Dogwood trees on our property. We would like to transplant them. We live in Maine, any suggestions for a succesful relocation of the trees?
